MAKING THE WORLD BRIGHTER, ONE BULB AT A TIME

Tutorial - Roof Base for Wire Frame Item - PAGE 2

STEP 4 - Drill pilot holes through the end of the braces. MAKE SURE NOT TO make them too big or the screw WILL work its way loose. I recommend a minimum of two (2) per brace. Secure the braces (4 TOTAL) to the center 2x4. I recommend staggering them to ensure good weight disbursement. The braces should be AT LEAST 18" long. This will also significantly disburse the load.

Here you can see how I staggered the braces. IMPORTANT NOTE: Remember it is NOT just the 5-10 pound load from a wire frame deer that you are disbursing, it is also the WIND LOAD. A 30 mph wind can add quite a bit of force. See the next step for tying off or guy wires.

STEP 5 - Once you have your wire frame mounted to the base I would HIGHLY recommend getting some small gauge guy wire and tying off to a fixed point like one of your gutter brackets or something. I didn't tie mine off at first and we had a wind storm the Sunday after Thanksgiving and lost 3 wire frames after about 4 hours of 40-50 mph gusts.

NOTE: This has only been tested on an asphalt shingle roof.
